Apostle David Gilliam Sr. hails from the East Coast independent city of Petersburg, VA. He was born on November 6,1967 and is the son of David and Barbara Gilliam Tucker and was raised in an extremely strict, Apostolic Pentecostal environment. In 1973, at the age of five, Apostle Gilliam was baptized in the Holy Spirit. He grew up under the spiritual leadership of the late great honorable Bishop John Solomon Bean of the Bethesda Bible Way Church. Apostle Gilliam says, “Bishop Bean’s teaching had a powerful impact over his life during his spiritual developmental years.” It was in June 1974, when Apostle Gilliam says he brought forth his first sermon and has been running with the Word of God ever since.
However, it was Bishop Bean who had an initial impact over Apostle Gilliam. Bishop Bean was one of the original founders of Bible Way Worldwide under the leadership of the late great honorable Bishop Smallwood E Williams. Bishop Bean also had a very precise prophetic miracle ministry. While still in his mother’s womb, while she was eight months pregnant, Bishop Bean prophesied over Apostle Gilliam before his birth that “he would be a prophet to the nations.” Apostle Gilliam says, I don’t know of a time in my life when I have not felt the Holy Spirit or sense the presence of God.
After the death of Bishop John Bean, Apostle Gilliam says, “My family went into intensive prayer and were later led to Mount Calvary Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, under the leadership of the late great honorable Apostle Wesley M. Taylor Sr. This ministry was under the presider, the honorable Bishop, and Apostle William L Bonner.
It was during this time, when “I was twenty-one years old that I started to clearly understand my calling and asked Bishop Bonner to pray for me to have a special anointing.” He laughed and said, “Son there's only one anointing, but nevertheless here it is. As he laid hands upon me, there was suddenly a profound change over me inside and out. Those who were standing nearby could see it.”
As Apostle Gilliam continued to grow in the Lord, life around him continued to change. His pastor Apostle Wesley M. Taylor Sr., transitioned from this world to rewards. Following, Apostle Gilliam says, “I began to seek the Lord, for the spiritual father I should connect to. A few weeks later, a prophet of the Most High God came and said, ‘Look in the mirror.’ You have become the father and you shall give birth to many sons and daughters in the Gospel.”
Apostle Gilliam has accomplished many degrees in his life. But he says as Paul, "I count it all as dung, for the greatest accomplishment is the salvation of my soul, to be a citizen of the Holy City, and to have my name written in the lamb’s book of life; my main objective."
Shalom to you, my brethren.
